From the hustle and bustle of the souk to the spectacular solitude of the deserts, Dubai offers a colourful spectrum of attractions for visitors and tourists. Although the area is very small, the variety of scenery is quite staggering and it is possible to experience everything from rustic villages to luxury residences, powdery beaches to lush, green parks and monumental sand-dunes to imposing mountain ranges in a single day.
The constant climate provides the perfect environment for sports of all kinds. Swimming, tennis, horseracing, football, golf, sailing, windsurfing, diving, cricket and motor sports are all extremely popular and well catered for. The national sport of the United Arab Emirates is Camel racing and there are many race tracks throughout the country.
The population of Dubai is an eclectic mix and it is possible to find food from practically any corner of the world in the many restaurants in the city. For a taste of authentic Arab cuisine, the Lebanese, Iranian or Moroccan restaurants offer a selection of dishes in a mezze-style meal, but the Bedouin tribes that founded Dubai have contributed little in the way of gastronomy.
Whilst the locals of Dubai are friendly and welcoming, women are advised that, although they can dress as they like, it shows respect for the community and they will attract less attention if they cover their arms and legs, preferably in something loose-fitting.
